
About the author
Wagner Sousa is a Brazilian Researcher and Professor. He has taken his studies, both graduation and post-graduation, in Brazilian universities. In his PhD he also did research in France, Belgium and England in institutions as Cambridge University, the Political Science National Foundation (Sciences Po), and the University of Paris I – Sorbonne, and in the European Documentation Center, body designated by the European Union, in Brussels. Sousa has graduated in Law from Curitiba Law School, has a Master’s degree in Sociology from the Federal University of Parana, has a PhD degree in International Political Economy from the post-graduation program in the same field that is maintained by the Economics Institute in the Federal Universty of Rio de Janeiro. He has undertaken post-doctoral studies in this same Economics Institute, where he has also been a Professor for both undergraduate and graduate students in the courses of International Political Economy and Research Seminars. In his Master’s, Sousa studied the relations between Brazil and the United States of America regarding the steel industry.
Said study tackled the issue of privatizations in the Brazilian sector and the American protectionism under the 90’s context of liberalization linked to the World Trade Organization creation. For the PhD research, Sousa has studied France-Germany relations and the political process that resulted in the establishment of the common European currency, the Euro. With set goal, he researched the European integration process, process which resulted in the Maastricht Treaty and in the decision for the common currency adoption and the creation of the European Union. During his post-doctorate studies, Sousa has dedicated himself to understanding better the foreign policy of post-reunification Germany. Currently, Sousa’s researches center around Latin America in the work developed for the Latin America Analysis.
